About Specialty and Composite Dressings
Composite dressings combine several layers into one product, typically a bacterial barrier outer film, an absorbent middle layer and a non-adherent or semi-adherent contact layer, with an adhesive border that holds the dressing in place. Specialty dressings cover designs made for particular sites or uses, such as sacral and heel shapes, island dressings and contact layers. This collection within Wound Care Supplies includes products from 3M, DeRoyal and Smith & Nephew.
Type is the first filter. A composite island dressing serves as both primary and secondary dressing. A contact layer is placed directly on the wound bed and covered by a separate absorbent dressing. Shaped dressings are cut to follow a body contour.
Size is the second filter. Dressings are listed by overall dimensions, and bordered styles also show the pad size, which is the absorbent area inside the adhesive border. Choose a pad large enough to cover the wound with some margin, and an overall size that leaves enough border on intact skin. Dressing type and change frequency should be as specified by your clinician.
Each size is a separate item. Note the REF number and box count on your current supply before reordering.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the right size of composite dressing?
Compare the pad size, which is the absorbent area, with the size of the area to be covered, allowing a margin around it. Then check that the overall dimensions leave enough adhesive border on surrounding skin. For shaped or contact-layer dressings, follow the type and size specified by your clinician.
Are specialty and composite dressings covered by insurance?
Many wound dressings have HCPCS codes, which are shown on each product page for reference. Coverage usually depends on the payer, the plan and documentation such as the wound type and dressing change frequency. ArmadaMeds is a retailer, does not bill insurance and cannot promise coverage, so check with your plan.
How do I reorder the same dressing by the box?
Dressings are usually sold by the box, and some are also offered by the case. Each size has its own REF number, printed on the box and the individual pouch. Search by that number and confirm the size and box count on the listing to reorder the identical product.
