About Blood Glucose Test Strips, Meters and Lancets

This collection holds the supplies used for fingerstick blood glucose testing: meters, test strips, lancets, lancing devices and control solution. It is one of two collections in the Diabetes Care Supplies department, alongside insulin syringes, pen needles and CGM supplies.

Compatibility drives almost every choice here. Test strips are designed for a specific meter or meter family, and a strip made for one system will not work in another, even from the same manufacturer. Control solution is matched to the strip in the same way. Lancets are more flexible, but gauge and fit with your lancing device still matter, with higher gauge numbers indicating thinner lancets.

Brands here include Therasense, the maker of the FreeStyle strips and meters, and Bayer, which developed the Contour line. Before ordering strips, look at the name and model printed on your meter and compare it with the compatible meters listed on the product page. Strips are counted per vial and per box, commonly 50 or 100, and some listings are for multi-box cases. Keeping the item number from your current box is the simplest way to reorder the same product.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make sure test strips will work with my meter?

Read the brand and model name printed on the front or back of your meter, then check the compatible meters listed on the strip's product page. Strips only work with the meters they are designed for. If you have a new meter, your prescriber or pharmacist can confirm which strips it uses.

Are test strips and lancets covered by insurance, and what HCPCS codes apply?

Test strips are coded A4253 per 50 strips and lancets A4259 per 100, and these codes are shown for reference only. Coverage depends on your payer and plan, which may set monthly quantity limits or prefer specific brands. ArmadaMeds is a retailer, so confirm benefits with your plan before ordering.

How do I reorder the same strips or lancets?

Find the item or REF number on your current box, along with the meter model and count. Search that number here. Strips are usually sold in boxes of 50 or 100, and lancets in boxes of 100 or 200, so confirm the count and whether the listing is a single box or a case.
