About Wound Care Supplies

Wound care supplies include the dressings, tapes, bandages and cleansers used to cover and manage wounds of all types, from minor cuts to chronic wounds under professional care. The category is organized by dressing material, with collections for foam, alginate and gelling fiber, hydrocolloid, hydrogel, transparent film, collagen, antimicrobial and silver, super-absorbent, island and composite, and gauze and non-adherent dressings, plus tapes, elastic bandages and wound closure products.

Dressing selection generally starts with how much fluid the wound produces. Films and hydrocolloids are designed for wounds with little to no drainage, hydrogels add moisture to dry wounds, foams handle light to moderate drainage, and alginates and super-absorbent dressings are built for heavier drainage. The next choices are size, whether the dressing has an adhesive border, and whether it is a primary dressing placed on the wound or a secondary dressing that goes over it.

The dressing type and change schedule should be as specified by your clinician or wound care nurse. When reordering, match the REF number, the dimensions and the bordered or non-bordered style.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between foam dressings and alginate dressings?

Foam dressings are soft, cushioned pads, often with an adhesive border, designed for wounds with light to moderate drainage. Alginate and gelling fiber dressings are made from fibers that form a gel as they absorb fluid, and they are designed for moderate to heavy drainage, often covered by a secondary dressing. The right type depends on the wound and your clinician's instructions.

Are wound dressings covered by insurance, and what HCPCS codes are used?

Most dressing types have HCPCS codes based on material and pad size, and any code shown on a product page is for reference only. Coverage and quantity limits depend on your payer and plan and usually require documentation from your clinician. ArmadaMeds is a retailer, so confirm benefits with your plan first.

How do I reorder the same dressing?

Look for the REF number printed on the box or the individual dressing packet, along with the dimensions and whether it is bordered. Search that number here. Dressings are typically sold in boxes of five, ten or more, and by the case, so check the unit of sale in the listing.
